Old Mill House Cottage

This little cottage is on the property of the original Old Mill House in Magaliesburg, South Africa,where I also took the picture of the meandering river which I recently posted on Naturally Inspired blog).

Although really quite old and weathered, it is still very much intact - I guess in a way, it's a testimony to building skills of days gone past!? I decided to post this as it reminds me of my recent posts of an old country cottage, a place to be inspired by, a place away from it all, somewhere to go and rest, and just simply enjoy the space....

An uninspiring garden "shed"?

Most people with some form of garden, especially on older properties, will inevitably have an old store room or shed where things are (supposed to be) stored, but more often than not, end up being dumped!

Be that as it may, this area very quickly turns into a "strictly out of bounds zone". Pity, since normally there will be shrubs growing nearby, which without much effort immediately turn this area into a lovely "garden room" with an "old world" feel.

Quite simply paint the store room or shed in a contrasting vibrant shade (to your existing home colour) or simply just paint the door. Place an old wooden or concrete bench or other garden seating nearby and, voila... you have a quiet spot, reminiscent of a Provencal country garden (or something along those lines).

So think about it ... it's worth heading out there into the "no go zone"and revamping that 'shed' area, after all.

Continuing the theme of the country cottage .....

I'm still 'enamoured' with the idea of a rustic remote country cottage, where one can chill, write, eat good food and drink good wine, siesta, talk endlessly with friends and family and just simply be.

I do know that often there is more romanticism associated to this, then there is practicality.... but hey, a girl can dream can't she?

This pic shows a real old style kitchen area ..... uhm, just perfect!!

And whilst on a vintage theme... this collection of old glass bottles is simple but very effective as a decor statement. It just goes to show that there is beauty in the smallest and simplest of things and that a lot can be done with something basic and understated.

A quiet corner to aspire to .....

I came across a series of wonderful shabby chic decor pics this morning, and chose to load this one....
I love the "oldness" of this room, the vintage qualities... and the fact that it inspires the desire for a quaint, out of the way country cottage, where one can sit quietly and contemplate life or write away to the hearts content, with wonderful music playing in the background!
