And the DETAIL lives on ....

an exquisite juliette balcony.   note the detail above the door...

Architectural detail on old buildings is simply fascinating!  How some of these buildings were put together is mind boggling, how long they must have taken to build and the effort required is often beyond imagination.
All of of these, detailed here, are very old, some centuries old, and yet they live on, standing proud!

a "home" for "our lady"

fascinating stone work ....

an ancient door knocker....

wonderful arch and gable, ancient clay roof tiles .....

a clock face, carved out of stone .... (sadly this one no longer functions)

curves and curls ... out of stone ....

tilework (azulejo) ... everywhere you look

wonderful brick arches, still standing proud .... on a delapidated building.

OOhing and aahing over your Portugal pictures. Even though I have never been to Portugal, this looks so familiar. Colonial towns in Brazil look just like this.
:-) LOVE it! To answer your question, the stained glass windows in my mosaic are in St. John's Catholic Church, in Omaha, Nebraska (USA). I took the photos a couple of months ago when I visited my daughter there.

So glad you enjoyed the pics of Portugal ... I have tons more, hope to do mosaics and a few posts with them next year! Yes well lthe Portuguese have had a huge influence on Brazil, so wouldn't surprise me if you see similarities!? If you ever get a chance you must go - I love Europe in general, but Portugal holds a special place in my heart...
